Location: Nalya – Kampala, Uganda

Our client, a fast-growing company in the business of creating access to safe, affordable drinking water using the best quality chemical-free water purification technologies is looking for a skilled and qualified professional to fill the position of Accountant. Reporting to the General Manager the ideal candidate’s role will:

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee month-end closing of accounts, identify issues, compare with year-ago results and make projections.
  2. Manage all external filings and prepare management reports.
  3. Review all financial operating processes, analyze results, and ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  4. Ensure compliance to all income tax procedure and manage process of tax returns.
  5. Prepare expenditure reports supported by receipts.
  6. Keep a good record of all invoices, receipts, and client agreements.
  7. Assist the auditor with reports required to audit the annual financial statements.
  8. Manage petty cash.
  9. Prepare payroll and salary slips including taxes and pensions.
  10. Prepare bank reconciliation statements.
  11. Prepare payments by verifying documentation and requesting disbursements.
  12. Reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  13. Manage inventory and stock.
  14. Ensure Company operations comply with legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation.
  15. Undertake any other duties assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or accounts or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • CPA (K) and or ACCA is required
  • Member of a professional body will be an added advantage.
  • Should be hands-on with QuickBooks – Desktop Version, iTax and any other relevant accounting application.
  • Attention to detail – ability to pay strong attention to detail in order to keep information accurate and organized.
  • Communication – ability to listen carefully in order to accurately gather facts and figures from clients, managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to clearly articulate the results of work carried out and present findings in written reports.
  • Technical Skills and Business acumen – must understand the basic functions of a business to accurately analyze and interpret financial data.
  • Computer literacy – experience with financial reporting using computer-based tools to work effectively.
  • Data Analysis – ability to collect and analyze financial data in order to identify patterns and potential issues.
